Our Equine Assistants

Meet the horses that assist the counselor and equine professional in the sessions.

Dare (aka Rivendell’s Pryderi)

Dare is a Percheron Sport Horse (Warmblood) that was born here at Rivendell Farm in April 2000. He is a big guy with immense presence. Dare is the herd boss now, mainly because he is the oldest member of the herd. He is extremely outgoing and curious, with a playful sense of humor.

***

Henry (aka Lakota Dream)

Henry is a Paint horse who came to live at Rivendell Farm in November 2014. He is five days younger than Dare, so they sometimes skirmish for the right of succession. He is an independent, intelligent, and warm-hearted guy who loves to be brushed and fussed over.

***

Bea (aka Bobby Socks)

Bea is a Paint/Thoroughbred cross who came to Rivendell Farm in November 2014 with her father Henry. She is currently our only mare, so fancies herself queen. Bea is sweet and curious, but sometimes excitable. When treated gently, she returns it in kind, and also loves to be pampered.

***

Duncan (aka Dirty By Design)

Duncan is a Palomino Quarter Horse and the youngest member of our herd. He arrived at Rivendell Farm in September 2018. Duncan is easy-going, friendly, and level-headed, but he also has a playful streak. He is a favorite of visitors.

***

Toby

Toby is a Percheron gelding and the newest member of our herd. He arrived at Rivendell Farm in September 2019. Toby is quiet and curious, a gentle giant. He is still finding his place in the herd, but we expect great things from him in the future.

Toby is being sponsored by Sylvia & Lynn Hall.

Horses are large animals and can be expensive to keep healthy and happy. They need hay (each horse eats about 2/3 of a bale per day), grain, hoof trimming every 6-8 weeks, and veterinary care. They also need incidentals like halters, leads, buckets, and saddle pads. If you would like to help support the upkeep of our equine counseling assistants, donations are accepted through our PayPal button (see sidebar). It is also possible to sponsor a specific horse monthly. For more information, contact us.
